1977 Ducati 900 SD Darmah NEW

ew [removed phone] SD Darmah. This is a particularly desirable early model, with the short Ceriani fork, shorter Marzocchi shocks, and lighter Campagnolo wheels. The last time this bike was running was at the factory test track in 1977, where it covered one mile. It was then shipped to California where it sat in a dealership for 35 years. Unfortunately the storage conditions weren't perfect and the frame and engine show signs of surface corrosion. The brakes were seized and the Campagnolo wheels corroded. So this bike has been refreshed but not restored. The paint is all factory original, the rare early red with hand painted stripes, and the seat NOS. The original twin bleed Brembo brake calipers have been rebuilt and a set of NOS Campagnolo wheels fitted, still with the original 1977 M45 Michelin tires that are new (except for the cracked sidewalls). Because of the corrosion many fasteners were replated with new chrome on the exhaust pipes and other chrome parts. The turn signals are also NOS, as is the CEV 9530 taillight. So, cosmetically the bike is very nice, but not perfect as the frame has not been repainted and the engine not pulled apart. Everything is original, down to the Berliner tag on the steering head. Where can you find another like this with only one mile from new? I would not countenance riding this bike without bearing in mind a couple of important issues. The original Michelin tires are clearly unsafe for riding, and the engine has not been started since mid-1977. The oil is fresh Castrol 50 weight and it turns over nicely and has good compression as you would expect from a new engine.
